Julie M. Palmer

Experience

Julie Palmer has more than twenty years of experience working on roof restoration and rehabilitation projects, primarily for existing and historic buildings. Ms. Palmer has worked on projects involving a large variety of building types, including academic, commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and museums. She has technical experience with a wide range of steep-slope and low-slope roofing systems, both historic and modern, as well as associated building materials and construction systems. She also has experience working closely with contractors during design and construction to perform test openings, ensure constructability of the designed work, and troubleshoot field conditions. Ms. Palmer is the recipient of numerous project and document competition awards and currently serves on the board of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants as second vice president.

Roofing and Waterproofing

  • Tuscany Condominiums - Atlanta, GA: Condition assessment followed by design of steep-slope concrete tile roof replacement for four buildings
  • Pier 3 Atrium - Philadelphia, PA: Replacement of 14,000-square-foot liquid-applied waterproofing system below a concrete topping slab
  • Thomas Jefferson University, Hayward Hall - Philadelphia, PA: Condition assessment followed by design of low-slope roof replacement with new two-ply modified bitumen roof system
  • RISE at State College - PA: Replacement of existing waterproofing system at amenity deck, including removal and reinstallation or replacement of existing overburden

 

Roof Assessment and Design

  • Lutheran Church of the Redeemer - Atlanta, GA: Assessment of nineteen separate roof areas, including PVC, slate, built-up, and standing seam metal roofing systems
  • Mt. Mercy University - Cedar Rapids, IA: Roof condition assessment for three buildings on campus, including slate, terra cotta tile, composition shingle, and EPDM roofing systems
  • Delaware County Courthouse - Media, PA: Condition assessment of existing modified bitumen, built-up, EPDM, batten seam copper, and asphalt shingle roofs at a circa 1850 courthouse
  • Ardmore Presbyterian Church - PA: Condition assessment followed by a multiphase roof repair program for seventy- and one hundred-year-old slate roofs

 

Repair and Rehabilitation

  • First Presbyterian Church - Philadelphia, PA: Roof repair program for a circa 1872 church, including slate and modified bitumen roofing as well as flashing and gutter repairs
  • Penn State at the Navy Yard - Philadelphia, PA: Repair scope for existing TPO roofs, including localized replacement of deteriorated structural insulated panel roof decking

 

Historic Preservation

  • Academy of Music - Philadelphia, PA: Condition assessment followed by design of standing seam roof replacement, rehabilitation of existing cupola, and built-in gutter replacement for a circa 1856 National Historic Landmark theater
  • Texas Capitol Visitors Center - Austin: Design of new slate roof system for a circa 1857 165-year-old National Register building, including reintroduction of missing historic pole gutters
  • Kimbell Art Museum - Fort Worth, TX: Condition assessment of lead-coated copper cycloid roofs, modified bitumen low-slope roofs, and built-in gutters followed by development of roof repair and gutter liner replacement program for a circa 1857 museum designed by Louis I. Kahn

  • University of Pennsylvania, Golkin Hall - Philadelphia: Leak investigation to identify multiple leak sources at eight-year-old vegetated roofs
  • Perelmen Center for Advanced Medicine - Philadelphia, PA: Leak investigation to identify multiple leak sources in the lobby and fifth floor atrium
